Prototype of Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Windows 7

January 26, 2009

New antivirus engine protects new operating system while using fewer system resources

Kaspersky Lab announces the release of a prototype of Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Windows 7. The prototype uses a new antivirus engine and provides businesses of all sizes with comprehensive protection against threats used by cybercriminals.

The prototype of Kaspersky Anti-Virus is designed to secure computers running Windows 7. The beta version of the Microsoft Windows 7 operating system was released at the beginning of January 2009. At the same time Kaspersky Lab released its prototype for the new operating system. The prototype offers both increased efficiency and comprehensive protection against all kinds of malware. It features an antivirus pattern-recognition component and a heuristic analyser, which can detect and block as-yet-unknown malicious programs on the basis of suspicious characteristics. The prototype also includes a firewall and an anti-spam filter.

“We expect a lot of companies to migrate to Windows 7. Any business can be targeted by cybercriminals regardless of their size and therefore needs effective protection,” said Malcolm Tuck, Managing Director of Kaspersky Lab UK. “Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Windows 7 will help all companies, from the largest down to the smallest, that use the new Microsoft Windows operating system to keep their IT systems up and their business running.”

New antivirus engine makes cybercrime protection more effective

At the heart of the prototype is Kaspersky Lab’s new antivirus engine, which is even more effective at detecting malicious programs than its predecessor. The new engine dramatically increases system scanning speed thanks to improved processing of objects and optimised use of system resources, particularly on dual- and quad-core processor platforms. The unique product architecture ensures high productivity and one of the lowest uses of system resources in the industry. The prototype is fully compatible with 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows 7. Both less experienced and advanced users will find the solution easy to install, configure and use.

The prototype will be enhanced by centralised administration tools, which are scheduled for development during the testing phase of the new operating system. Kaspersky Lab also plans to launch a full range of products providing comprehensive protection for both home and corporate users by the time Windows 7 is officially released.
