Kaspersky® Mobile Security and Kaspersky® Internet Security 2009 Provided To Over Two Million Online Banking Customers
Kaspersky Lab, a leading provider of Internet security solutions today announced that Barclays has become the first UK bank to offer its online banking customers with free mobile security via Kaspersky® Mobile Security.
The offer of free Kaspersky® Mobile Security follows Barclays’ groundbreaking announcement in July 2008 that it would provide the award-winning Kaspersky® Internet Security 2009 free of charge to the two million customers who are registered for its online banking service.
Sean Gilchrist, Director for Electronic Banking at Barclays, explains why Kaspersky Lab was chosen once again by Barclays for this UK banking first: “Barclays has offered customers one of the best security packages of all online banks over the last two years and it’s important that customers protect their mobile phones in the same way they do their computers from all threats, by downloading this new software.”
Easily installed on the web-enabled mobile phone of a Barclays customer, Kaspersky® Mobile Security delivers valuable protection in the case of loss or theft of the device, enabling the owner to secure all data and access to it, until it is recovered and in the instance of theft, all information can be remotely wiped. Additionally, should a new SIM card be entered to the device, a hidden SMS will be sent informing of the details of the new SIM card to be passed to the device provider and relevant authorities.
In addition, Kaspersky® Mobile Security provides award-winning defence against attacks (viruses, trojans, worms, spyware, backdoors, keyloggers, rootkits, phishing and spam/hacker attacks) from cybercriminals looking to profit from the mobile Internet, as well as preventing SMS spam.
Malcolm Tuck, Managing Director of Kaspersky Lab UK & Ireland, comments: “Mobile theft and mobile Internet crime is on the rise. In fact, earlier this month Kaspersky Lab detected a crimeware program designed by cybercriminals with the sole purpose of covertly stealing from the owner, without the device ever leaving their hands.” He adds: ”The ability to manage your finances from your PC or web-enabled mobile device has revolutionised banking. However, it is vitally important to ensure that it is done so with up-to-date security measures in place. We applaud Barclays for this new initiative.”
