March 29, 2007

Examples of the significant losses caused by keyloggers are also highlighted in the report, together with advice on how users and organisations can protect themselves from the malware.

Kaspersky Lab, a leading developer of secure content management solutions, has published the first part of a new article on keyloggers, a type of spyware which enables malicious users to harvest passwords and other confidential data. The first part of the article gives an overview of how keyloggers function and propagate. It also details the main techniques used by virus writers to create keyloggers, and how such programs are increasingly using rootkits to hide within an infected system.

Examples of the significant losses caused by keyloggers are also highlighted in the report, together with advice on how users and organisations can protect themselves from the malware.

The article, written by Nikolay Grebennikov, Deputy Director of the company's Research and Development team, is available on viruslist.com and can be accessed at Viruslist.com. The second part of the article will be published in mid-April.
