Kaspersky Lab, a leading developer of secure content and threat management solutions, announces that it has been granted a new patent in the US

Kaspersky Lab, a leading developer of secure content and threat management solutions, announces that it has been granted a new patent in the US. Patent № 8056136 covers a system for detecting malware and managing malware-related information. The technology, invented by Kaspersky Lab’s Oleg Zaitsev, enhances cooperation between different antivirus modules, which directly affects the efficiency of malware detection.

To analyze and detect malicious objects, Kaspersky Lab’s antivirus engine uses different technologies such as traditional signature-based methods, emulation, an isolated environment (sandbox), heuristics, etc. Under a typical scenario, each of these modules operates separately, using unique sources of information to detect malicious programs. The patented technology describes a method of collecting and sharing information between different protection modules.

The patent also includes a description of a universal system of interaction between different antivirus modules and how common resources are accessed. A special management system controls access to the antivirus modules and collects and processes information about malicious objects. Other systems are used to store incoming information, interpret, evaluate and transfer it to different modules of the antivirus program. The technology thus offers a centralized method of processing malware-related information, which in turn makes it possible to quickly transfer important data to the relevant module.

The patent is the second to be granted to Kaspersky Lab by the US patent office in November and the 38th in total. Kaspersky Lab’s advanced technologies are now covered by more than 200 patents and patent applications worldwide.
