Kaspersky Lab announces that Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2010 has received top marks from AV-Comparatives following proactive protection testing
Kaspersky Lab, a leading developer of secure content management solutions, announces that Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2010 has received top marks from AV-Comparatives following proactive protection testing.
Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2010 successfully passed comparative testing by the respected Austrian test laboratory AV-Comparatives, which saw the antivirus solutions of sixteen of the world's leading vendors put through their paces.
The tests were designed to determine the ability of each security solution to detect the very latest malware using outdated antivirus databases. The use of such a technique for evaluation purposes is considered particularly important as a user's computer should be protected against even the very latest threats for which signatures do not yet exist.
Only static analysis techniques were employed during testing. Dynamic detection methods, e.g. emulation, were not used. Each solution was evaluated against criteria such as the level of on-demand detection of the very latest malware programs and the number of false positives generated.
Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2010 deservedly received AV-Comparatives' highest award, an Advanced+, after demonstrating excellent heuristic malware detection and a negligible amount of false positives. Kaspersky Lab's solution demonstrated a notably higher level of new malware detection and a much smaller number of false positives than the antivirus solutions of such vendors as Symantec, McAfee and ESET.
"Not all of our protection technologies were used in the test. Methods which would normally enable our solutions to detect malware based on its behavioral characteristics were not employed in these tests. However, our product has demonstrated a very high level of proactive protection even under such restrictive conditions," said Alexander Gostev, Head of Kaspersky Lab's Global Research & Analysis Team.
