Eugene Kaspersky receives State Prize of the Russian Federation for Science and Technology

Kaspersky Lab CEO and co-founder Eugene Kaspersky has received the State Prize of the Russian Federation for Science and Technology from Russian President Dmitry Medvedev in the Kremlin.

Kaspersky Lab, a leading developer of secure content management solutions, is pleased to announce that the company’s CEO and co-founder Eugene Kaspersky has received the State Prize of the Russian Federation for Science and Technology.

The official award ceremony took place on 12 June in the Kremlin where President Dmitry Medvedev presented Eugene Kaspersky with a diploma, a medal and 5 million rubles. The prize money will be forwarded to Eugene Kaspersky’s former school, the A.N. Kolmogorov School in Moscow that specializes in physics and mathematics.

“I would like to express my deepest gratitude to President Dmitry Medvedev for valuing my work so highly, but would also like to note that the company owes its success to the hard work of our highly professional team. I am proud that our company is among those to successfully convert the potential of Russia’s high-tech science into practical applications,” said Eugene Kaspersky.

The State Prize of the Russian Federation has been awarded annually since 1992 by the President of the Russian Federation for contributions not only to science and technology but also literature and art and humanitarian work, and is the highest acknowledgement of services to society and the state. The prize for science and technology is conferred to individuals for outstanding work, discoveries and achievements that enrich both Russian and world science and make significant contributions to the advancement of science and technology.

Eugene Kaspersky graduated from the Institute of Cryptography, Telecommunications and Computer Science. He began his research of computer viruses in 1989 after the Cascade virus was detected on his computer. From 1991 to 1997 Eugene worked at KAMI Information Technologies Center where he developed the AVP antivirus project together with a group of associates (AVP was renamed Kaspersky Anti-Virus in November 2000). Eugene Kaspersky co-founded Kaspersky Lab in 1997, and was appointed CEO of the Company in 2007. Today, Eugene Kaspersky is one of the world's leading antivirus experts with 20 years of experience in the field of information security. He regularly speaks at seminars and conferences all over the world, and is the author of a number of articles and reviews covering topics related to computer virology.
