Kaspersky Lab presents a new generation of spam filtering systems
05 Sep 2006
Kaspersky Lab, a leading developer of secure content management solutions, announces the release of a new version of its system for filtering unwanted email correspondence – Kaspersky Anti-Spam 3.0. This solution is designed to protect corporate networks and clients of Internet providers from unwanted mass mailings. Kaspersky Anti-Spam 3.0 offers all the advantages of the previous product version, while incorporating a range of technological, architectural and functional enhancements, which make the solution more effective and user-friendly.
Kaspersky Anti-Spam 3.0 is a powerful multi-tier spam filtering system that incorporates a unique technology for linguistic analysis. This technology enables the system to analyze text and filter out spam independently.
Significant improvements have been made to Kaspersky’s Spamtest™ filtering engine. The new engine offers improved performance and stability, combined with low RAM requirements and smaller updates to the content filtering databases, resulting in less web traffic. The solution also uses a new content filtering database delivery system.
In Kaspersky Anti-Spam 3.0, all of the spam detection methods have been improved, resulting in much more effective filtering. In particular, algorithms used for the parsing of HTML objects in mail messages have been improved, making it far more difficult for spammers to circumvent spam filters. Improved analysis of graphic attachments has made recognition of spam containing images significantly more reliable. The graphic spam recognition technology is capable of detecting and filtering unwanted messages even when they contain slight modifications, such as different colors, additional pixels or different colored borders. The quality of spam filtering is also enhanced by an extended and improved mechanism for analyzing message headers; and by implementing new filtering technologies, including the Sender Policy Framework (SPF) and Spam URL Realtime Blocklists (SURBL), which are used to customize the spam filtration policy and are based on spam sender address lists that are updated in real-time.
The new web-based user interface is particularly convenient and user-friendly for administrators. The Control Center was developed following suggestions and recommendations from users of the previous version. It allows the system administrator to configure the product quickly and easily, to manage licenses, monitor the product's performance and view spam statistics.
The filtering policies that define procedures for mail processing are also configured using the convenient Control Center interface, which uses the minimum set of tools required for system administration. Its flexibility also allows administrators to tweak the service to their precise requirements. The administrator can enable or disable individual filtering rules, and define separate message processing rules based on each user group's needs.
Set up and administration of the system is now easier, as all settings are combined in one configuration file, where the administrator can easily find information on each element of the solution.
Finally, Kaspersky Anti-Spam 3.0 offers enhanced tools for integration of the application and customization of its infrastructure. In particular, the product offers much better integration with the Sendmail and Communigate PRO mail systems, which are popular among corporate customers.
