The growth of cyber threats targeting mobile devices has grown hand-in-hand with the increasing ubiquity of mobile devices in everyday lives. The range of threats grows just as rapidly as new devices and new operating systems come to the market. Kaspersky Lab’s newest offering is designed to safeguard smartphones that run on the Windows mobile system, one of the newer mobile operating systems to come to market.

The Kaspersky Safe Browser for Windows Phone app is designed to protect smartphones that run on Microsoft’s mobile OS, protecting users from the latest mobile threats while simultaneously offering a set of parental safeguards to restrict the mobile-based Internet activities of children. The new app is designed to specifically protect against phishing scams, especially those that revolve around the use of fake sites. Cybercriminals attempt to draw users to them and trick users into sharing their personal data. Phishing threats are often harder to detect on smaller mobile device screens than they are on laptops or desktops. And these threats are so common that one in three Internet users received messages with links to phishing sites in the last year, according to research from B2B International.

The app evolves as quickly as cybercriminals, because it is constantly updated with solutions to the newest threats through the cloud-based Kaspersky Security Network.

The app also offers critical parental tools by allowing users to filter web content; they can choose which categories of sites should be blocked, such as pornographic sites, pages containing obscene words or scenes of violence, gaming sites, social networking sites and so on.

“Smartphones are becoming an essential part of modern life and the web browser is one of the most popular features,” said Victor Yablokov, the head of mobile product line at Kaspersky Lab. “However, even the most tech-savvy web user may sometimes struggle to distinguish fake sites from the real thing. Now, Kaspersky Safe Browser for Windows Phone is here to help, providing automatic protection against fraudulent and inappropriate sites.”

The Kaspersky Safe Browser for Windows Phone app is available for download from Windows Phone Store, and it is just one Kaspersky product designed to protect mobile devices. The company also offers protection for iOS and Android-based devices.
