We all have digital habits. Some of them protect us. Some of them put us at risk. Kaspersky’s new interactive quiz, launched for European Cybersecurity Awareness Month, helps you uncover your Digital Alter Ego – and reveals how your behaviour online could make you more vulnerable than you think.
Why it matters: the millennial paradox
Kaspersky’s latest research reveals a surprising truth:
- three in four millennials rarely verify the identity of people they interact with online
- nearly 40% have fallen victim to digital deception – most often romance scams
- 45% admit to oversharing personal or sensitive information on social media
Despite being the most “digitally fluent” generation, millennials are falling into a trust gap: confident in their tech skills, but too quick to believe what they see online. With AI deepfakes, catfishing, and identity fraud on the rise, this gap is becoming more dangerous. Read the full research.
Real stories: when trust turns into risk
Kaspersky spoke with millennials who shared their experiences of deception online:
- Merv, a telecoms engineer, built a six-month relationship with a woman he thought was real – until she disappeared after asking for money
- Darren thought he was booking a travel visa, only to discover he’d paid a scam site
- Sean met a date who looked nothing like her filtered profile photos – a different kind of catfish, but a reminder of how easy misrepresentation can be
