Kaspersky Lab presents ‘End of the Line for the Bredolab Botnet?’, an article by malware analyst Alexey Kadiev. The botnet emerged in mid-2009 and comprised some 30 million infected computers all over the world.
During the third quarter of 2010, Kaspersky Lab’s products blocked over 600 million attempts to infect users’ computers with malicious and unwanted programs.
According to the report’s author, the year 2010 saw malicious programs reach a whole new level of functionality, which is likely to bring about a major shakeup in the types of criminals orchestrating cyber attacks as well as their aims and the methods they use.
Author of the review, Alexander Gostev, Chief Security Expert at Kaspersky Lab, reveals that the main trends seen in 2009 continued into 2010, although their levels of sophistication reached completely new heights in a number of cases.
By far the biggest threat to users in November was drive-by downloads, attacks that result in malware being downloaded to users’ computers when they visit infected sites.
