Kaspersky® Anti-Virus 6.0 and Kaspersky® Internet Security 6.0 unveiled

Kaspersky Lab, a leading developer of secure content management solutions that protect against viruses, Trojans, worms, spyware, hacker attacks and spam, is launching new and enhanced versions of its antivirus and Internet security software.

Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 protects PCs against all malicious programs, combining traditional signature-based methods (detection of viruses based on their descriptions) with proactive protection. The proactive element detects threats by analyzing the behavior of malicious programs, minimizing false positives.

The product is particularly effective against spyware programs, as it provides the option of rolling back any changes to the file system and the registry made by a malicious process. When a malicious object is deleted, all references to it are also deleted from the operating system.

Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 monitors all critical areas of the operating system for potential threats, and can detect hidden code, such as rootkits; and ensures that data transferred to and from the computer is safe by scanning in real-time all incoming and outgoing emails, as well as files and web pages downloaded from the Internet.

Additionally, the scanning speed of the new software, and the time taken to download antivirus updates, is faster than its predecessor.

Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 is also intuitive to any drain on system resources. When the antivirus program performs operations that require substantial system resources, it monitors newly launched applications. If resource-intensive processes are launched by the user, Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 suspends its operations, freeing up system resources.

Kaspersky Internet Security 6.0 provides integrated protection for PCs against all types of online threats, including viruses and all other malicious programs, such as spyware and Trojans; network fraud and spam.

New to Kaspersky Internet Security 6.0 is a personal firewall, which controls data exchanged between the user’s computer and the Internet. The firewall also allows mobile users to define different operating modes for different types of networks – Internet, intranet, and trusted networks, for example. The solution also includes the popular “stealth” (invisibility) mode, and configuration of Internet access for installed programs is now easier.

Kaspersky Internet Security 6.0 also includes a new antispam system that features a range of advanced filtering technologies, such as intuitive algorithms that analyze emails. The self-learning Bayes algorithm in Kaspersky Internet Security 6.0 adapts itself to the specific mail traffic of each individual user, minimizing the Internet traffic that is needed to update the antispam database.

The antispam function also recognizes graphic elements used in spam. A mail dispatcher included in the antispam module helps to decrease traffic by previewing the headers of all incoming emails without downloading messages from the mail server.

Kaspersky Lab releases antispam database updates every 20 minutes, and users are still encouraged to update their databases as often as possible.

Kaspersky Internet Security 6.0 includes the full range of antivirus functions found in Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0.

Kaspersky Internet Security 6.0 also protects the user against other threats, such as phishing and pharming attacks, Trojans and crimeware; and blocks advertising banners and popup windows to protect the user from obtrusive online advertising.

The software also blocks rogue dialers, which route dial-up connections to premium rate telephone numbers.

Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 and Kaspersky Internet Security 6.0 are now available for purchase from the Kaspersky Lab eStore.
