The Company:
Turbolinux, Inc. (President & CEO Koichi Yano) manufactures and distributes Turbolinux FUJI, a Linux-based operating system which supports all platforms compatible with the x86 architecture. The company's headquarters & main development center are located in Japan, and the majority of company staff are developers and support engineers. Turbolinux FUJI was developed with a special focus on supporting double-byte Asian characters (such as Japanese and Chinese), and is thus recognized as the most widely-spread Linux distribution package on the Asian market. The company’s share in the Japanese market of software products for Linux desktops is 55%, making the company number one in the country, while in China Turbolinux takes the second place with 25% market share. The Turbolinux FUJI community amounts to approx. 100,000 users.
The company has adopted best practices and a certification system to extend its contribution to Linux technology, and has created strong alliances with a number of partners who promote Linux.

The Challenge:
Turbolinux FUJI is a powerful hybrid OS with a commitment to being compatible with Windows, yet inheriting the basic Linux features such as remarkable security, stability and powerful network functionality. The company wanted to bundle the operating system with antivirus software, and were looking for a solution that had a simple graphical user interface, the central feature of the Windows environment.
The Solution:
After considering various options, Turbolinux chose to partner with Kaspersky Lab, whose products are world-famous for their malware detection rates, frequency of antivirus updates, and rapid response times to new viruses. In addition to superior performance, the Kaspersky solution includes an intuitive and easy-to-use graphical interface.
Interview:
“Our company develops a Linux OS for desktop PCs. Although it could be said that the threat of an infection on a Linux OS is extremely low, we still have to consider the danger of so-called “secondary damage” caused by users of other OSs via infection from emails, file sharing and so on. Obviously such a risk should be considered an important issue not only among individual users, but also among companies and organizations frequently exchanging important data with external partners, since an infection is something that can potentially harm the company’s credibility within its industry. We believe that perfect safety can be achieved only through total protection of every single device connected to the network.
That’s why we felt a need to protect our users from various threats, in spite of the fact that the Linux OS is quite a secure platform. Finally we chose to bundle with Kaspersky Antivirus, taking into account its worldwide reputation and reliability. With new threats now emerging in every part of the world, Kaspersky Antivirus has been acknowledged as the leader in the global industry in terms of malware detection rates, frequency of antivirus updates, response time to new viruses and number of supported file formats. Therefore we believe Kaspersky technology to be absolutely reliable.
Furthermore, the simplicity of utilizing sophisticated functions harmonizes well with our online update service “Turbo plus”, which frees users from complicated operations and at the same time ensures the safety of various data handled by Turbolinux FUJI.
As a distributor of a proprietary OS product, we would like to state that it is honor for us to bundle with Kaspersky Anti-Virus, since we are now confident that Turbolinux delivers the most secure desktop OS ever seen.”
