Concerning to:
  • Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 (all builds)
  • Kaspersky Internet Security 6.0 (all builds)
  • Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 for Windows Workstations (all builds)
  • Kaspersky Anti-Virus version 6.0 includes a special component that protects incoming and outgoing mail from dangerous objects, Mail Anti-Virus. It starts running when the operating system boots up, stays active in your system memory, and scans all e-mail on protocols POP3, SMTP, IMAP, MAPI and NNTP.

E-mails sent with MAPI are scanned using a special plug-in for Microsoft Office Outlook and The Bat!

To navigate to the settings window of Mail Anti-Virus component, do the following:

    • Open the main application window of Kaspersky IAnti-Virus version 6.0
    • Click Settings in the upper menu
    • In the left part of the dialog window in the Protection section click Mail Anti-Virus

The following settings are pre-defined for the Mail Anti-Virus component:

    • Enable Mail Anti-Virus – enables or disables work of File Anti-Virus component
    • Security level – selects and sets one of three security levels, configures customized security level, resets to default level.
    • Action over object – prompt for action when the scan is finished, prompt during the scan or do not prompt, disinfect or delete, if disinfection fails.
    • Scan POP3/SMTP/IMAP/NNTP – scans mail traffic by protocols POP3, SMTP, IMAP and NNTP. Use the link POP3/SMTP/IMAP/NNTP to edit the list of ports controlled by Kaspersky Anti-Virus version 6.0

    • Enable Microsoft Outlook/ The Bat! support – enables/disables mail traffic scan for Microsoft Office Outlook and The Bar! mail clients

If you disable all options in the Connectivity section, i.e. Scan POP3/SMTP/IMAP/NNTP and Enable Microsoft Outlook/ The Bat! support then the Mail Anti-Virus component is disabled automatically and the settings cannot be changed. In this case it is senseless to use Mail Anti-Virus as all protection fields for the component have been disabled.

The dialog windows for Kaspersky Internet Security 6.0, Kaspersky Internet Security 6.0 MP1, Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0, Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 MP1 and Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 for Windows Workstations are the same but with corresponding product names and the number of Protection components.
