Yes, Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 for Windows Workstations can be installed “on the top” of version 5.0 of the same product, and when installing “on the top” of version 5.0 some application settings can be saved.
Settings’ names of Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.0 for Windows Workstations correspond to build 5.0.712.
Navigation from version 5.0 to 6.0 and settings’ inheritance were tested on Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.0 for Windows Workstations builds 5.0.225 and higher.
In version 6.0 settings of all exclusions (trusted riskware, scan exclusion masks, etc) are configured in one Trusted zone window (the Protection settings). And for the added exclusion object you can define an Anti-Virus component which will consider this exclusion when scanning objects.
The following settings are inherited from version 5.0 into Trusted zone section:
- Settings to exclude trusted riskware from scan (in version 5.0 > the Settings tab > Threats and exclusions link > list in the General list of exclusions section).
In case you use RAdmin program it is recommended to install the Anti-Virus version 6.0 with the settings’ profile in which this potential riskware is excluded from the scan.
- List of trusted processes (in version 5.0 > the Settings tab > Configure Real-Time Protection link > the Files tab > the specified link for trusted processes in the Protection settings section > applications in the List of exclusions window)
- Exclusion settings from Scan My Computer task (in version 5.0 > the Settings tab > On-Demand Scan tasks > properties of the Scan My Computer task > the Settings tab > the specified link for exclusions in the Scan settings section > list of objects and masks in the Objects excluded from the scan scope section) – for the Scan component

The Customized security level of version 5.0 corresponds to Custom security level in version 6.0.The values of the following parameters will be inherited (to view the parameters open the main application window > Settings > File Anti-Virus > click the Customize button in the Security level section):
- The Scan scope parameter in version 5.0 is inherited by the Protection zone parameter on the Protection scope tab (in version 6.0).
- Objects to be scanned scan (correspond to File types)
- Scan all corresponds to Scan all files
- Scan only objects that can be infected corresponds to Scan programs and documents (by content)
- Scan objects by extension corresponds to Scan programs and documents (by extension)
- The Scan self-extracting archives parameter (in version 5.0) is inherited by the Scan installation packages parameter (in version 6.0).

- The Scan mail received via POP3 protocol parameter in the Scan scope section (in version 5.0) is inherited by the Incoming and outgoing mail parameter in the Scope section (in version 6.0)
- The enabled Scan attached archives parameter in version 5.0 corresponds to disabled Skip attached archives parameter in version 6.0
- The Stop if scan takes longer than parameter (in version 5.0) is inherited by the Skip objects scanned longer than parameter (in version 6.0)
- Real-time script protection
Only action to be performed with dangerous script from Real-time script protection is inherited by the Web Anti-Virus component.
- Real-time macro protection
In Anti-Virus version 6.0 actions over all suspicious macros are set centralized: an action to be performed when a macro detected is enabled under the list of dangerous macros.
Settings of Real-time macros protection are inherited by the Enable Office Guard module of the Proactive defense component.
- If macro action is allowed in version 5.0 (the Allow execution action is set), then in version 6.0 the macro is also allowed (it is not checked). Other macros are checked.
- If Prompt for action is set for any macro in version 5.0, then the same action is performed for all checked macros in version 6.0.
- If no Prompt for action is set for any macros in version 5.0, then the Terminate action is performed for all checked macros in version 6.0
- On-demand scan tasks
- Scan selected objects task (in version 5.0 > the Protection tab > Scan objects link):
- When installing “on the top” of Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.0 for Windows Workstations version 5.0.228 (or lower) – the task settings are not inherited in version 6.0
- When installing “on the top” of Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.0 for Windows Workstations version 5.0.527 (or higher) – the task settings are inherited (main application window > Scan)
- Settings of predefined (system) scan tasks are inherited by corresponding tasks in version 6.0
- Manually created scan tasks are automatically created in version 6.0
