  • Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.0\6.0 SOS
  • A lot of viruses that have appeared lately use the HOSTS file to prevent the user from connecting the antivirus company site and downloading antivirus database updates.

    If your computer is infected with the virus, to rectify the problem, do the following:

  • Find the HOSTS file. Depending on the operating system (OS) you use the file is
    - for Windows-95/98/ME: in the root catalogue of the disc where the OS is installed
    - for Windows NT/2000/XP/Vista: in the folder System32/drivers/etc
  • correct the file by deleting all the lines except: 127.0.0.1 localhost

    or change your HOSTS file to the original one. You can download the original file in the link: hosts
  • InformationKaspersky Anti-Virus version 6.0 controls changes and attempts to rewrite the file HOSTS if the Enable Registry Guard module is enabled for the Proactive Defense component.
