Users waste a lot of time and money on SPAM, making SPAM just as problematic as a true virus infection, though the SPAM programs aren’t as malicious as a virus.
The Anti-Spam component is embedded in the mail client installed on your computer and scans incoming messages for spam. All messages that contain spam are marked by a special header. The user can also configure the Anti-Spam component to process spam (delete automatically, locate it to a special folder, etc.)
New Anti-Spam features:
The “Message controller” module: the user can look through the headers of all incoming messages and not download them from the mail server to economize time and traffic.
Scan SMTP, POP3, IMAP4 mail protocols: anti-spam scans main mail protocols and prevents spam delivery by e-mail.
Plug-ins in the Microsoft Outlook, Outlook Express (Winows Mail) and TheBat! mail clients: anti-spam plug-ins in Outlook, OE and The Bat! filter messages (spam and not spam) and the user can manually filter the “spam” marked messages directly in the mail system.
White and black lists of addressees: the user can configure lists of undesired e-mail addresses (all messages from these addresses are marked as spam) and trusted e-mail addresses (all messages from these addresses are never marked as spam)
List of allowed and disallowed phrases with rating threshold: the user can configure lists of disallowed phrases (all messages with the specified disallowed phrases are marked as Spam according to the rating threshold) and allowed phrases (all messages with the specified allowed phrases are never marked as Spam)
Use self-training Bayes algorithm: training algorithms allow automatically filter spam-messages after preliminary training (50 messages).
Define spam and possible spam rating threshold: the user can set rating thresholds. If the rating threshold is exceeded the message is classified as spam or possible spam.
Use image recognition technology to detect spam (GSG): the technology analyzes graphic objects attached to the letter to get information from the image when detecting the spam factor.
Use header recognition technology (PDB): the technology analyzes mail headers (using the signatures database update) when detecting the spam factor.
Optional parameters of spam filtering: these parameters allow configure more precise settings of spam filtering for specific needs of the user.
Use phishing database to detect spam: this feature detects spam delivery with phishing messages using the anti-phishing database.
Training wizard in the Outlook and Outlook Express mail clients: simplifies the anti-spam training process in the Microsoft Outlook and Outlook Express mail clients using the training wizard.
Training in the reports of the Anti-Spam task: allows train the Anti-Spam module in the task report – irrespective of the mail client.
The following Anti-Spam features have been added to Kaspersky Lab’s products version 2009:
Phrases analysis using the updatable database (Recent Terms). When using Recent terms technology, Anti-Spam compares phrases contained in the messages with phrases characteristic of spam. Samples of phrases are contained in the database that is updated on a regular basis.
Use "large" updatable database. When using a large database, the efficiency of the Recent terms technology increases dramatically.
Possibility to train Anti-Spam databases during the product initial setting.
Possibility to send spam samples to Kaspersky Lab from Anti-Spam plug-ins for Outlook and Outlook Express.
Plug-in for mail client Mozilla Thunderbird. It allows managing the Anti-Spam module from the mail client interface.
