Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.0 for Windows Workstations MP4 (builds 5.0.527 - 5.0.528)The main application window manages and configures the anti-virus package after the Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.0 for Windows Workstations installation is complete (detailed information about installation of Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.0 for Windows Workstations). To get access to the main application window click the Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.0 for Windows Workstations icon in the right down corner of the screen.
The main application window gives quick access to all the application's anti-virus protection capabilities. From the Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.0 for Windows Workstations main window, you can perform the following functions:
- configure anti-virus protection settings;
- start and stop scan of the entire system or specified discs, folders or files for viruses and other malicious programs;
- download updates for the anti-virus database, application modules and network attacks database;
- set up startup full computer scan and for updates;
- manage quarantined and backuped objects;
- manage reports, etc.
All anti-virus protection settings, status information and specific tasks are accessible from the following tabs of the main window:
Protection tab: summarizes the current anti-virus protection status and gives access to on-demand scanning. From this tab, you can access the quarantine/backup storages and view reports.
Settings tab: displays the settings and status for all anti-virus tasks which can be changed on the same tab
Support tab: displays information about Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.0 for Windows Workstations, contact and other support information.
The Protection tab:

From the Protection tab, you can perform the following functions:
To perform the above tasks and actions, use the links provided in the right section of the tab. In the right section of the tab, you can view the current status of real-time protection, on-demand scan and anti-virus database. Here you can also view comments on the status of each anti-virus protection task.
If the protection status is critical or does not match the recommended settings, you will see valuable tips from Kaspersky Lab experts. You can be prompted to modify the current settings, restore the recommended settings, or launch a certain task. The recommendations are organized as hyperlinks so that you can easily perform the corresponding action.
The Settings tab

Using the Settings tab you can evaluate and customize both the standard and advanced settings of Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.0 for Windows Workstations.
The right section of the tab displays the current settings for real-time anti-virus protection, on-demand scans, and automatic updating of the anti-virus database, application modules and the network attacks database. It also gives detailed comments and tips from Kaspersky Lab on how to customize these settings. For example, if you manually updated your anti-virus database in the past, you will be prompted to schedule automatic updates.
By clicking links located in the left section of the Settings tab, you can edit the parameters for real-time protection, on-demand scans, and anti-virus database updating.
Here you can also customize parameters related to the quarantine where suspicious objects are placed that are possibly infected with viruses or their modification and to the backup storage that keeps the backup copies of the objects. The Support tab

The Support tab contains information about Kaspersky Lab' Technical Support and how to obtain assistance for problems with the application. The right section of the tab displays information about the application, the license key and the computer's operating system so that you can provide this information to Kaspersky Lab' Technical Support if required.
By following the links in the left section of the tab, you can:
- send your questions to Kaspersky Lab' Technical Support;
- send the objects that are possibly infected with viruses or their modifications to Kaspersky Lab for analysis;
- prolong the license for Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.0 for Windows Workstations (install a new license key);
The left section of the tab also includes the following reference link:
- How to: general application reference;
- Help: reference on performing tasks and troubleshooting;
- Virus Encyclopedia: a link to www.virulist.com website containing detailed descriptions of all currently known Malware;
