To change the exclusions of the on-demand scan, do the following:

- In the Real-time protection settings > Files > Settings
- In the Real-time file protection settings make the necessary changes
- Close each window by pressing OK

In the real-time file protection settings the following settings can be configured:
In the Objects to be scanned section select the objects that should be scanned by Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.0 for Windows Workstations with the real-time file protection enabled:
- Scan all: scan all files irrespective of their extension.
- Scan only objects that can be infected: (the option is enabled by default) scan files that can be infected. Analysis for infection is based on the internal structure of a file.
- Scan objects by extension: scan files that can be infected; analysis for infection is based on the file extension.
In the Additional settings of the file protection section enable or disable scan of the objects, scanned by real-time files protection of Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.0 for Windows Workstations
- Scan OLE objects (by default the option is enabled) enables scan of OLE objects, embedded into different files that are located on hard/removable drives of your PC, when addressing to them.
- Scan packed executable files (by default the option is enabled) enables scan of packed executable files, located on the hard/removable drives of your PC when addressing to them
- Scan self-extracting archives: (by default the option is disabled) enables scan of self-extracting archives (SFX), located on the hard/removable drives of your PC when addressing to them
- Scan disk boot sectors: (by default the option is enabled) enables scan of disc boot sectors of your PC when addressing to them
- Stop if scan takes longer than (sec): (by default the option is disabled) restricts an object scan time. If during the set period of time the object is not scanned, then Kaspersky anti-Virus 5.0 for Windows Workstations starts scanning the next object.
In the Object scan acceleration section you can enable/ disable use of technologies to accelerate the anti-virus scan
- Use the iChecker technology: the technology allows accelerating the anti-virus scan by excluding from scan the objects that were not changed or modified from the time of the previous scan (if the scan parameters (anti-virus databases and settings) have not been changed). Information about it is stored in a special database.
- Use the iStreams technology: this technology is similar to iChecker. The difference is the following: in iStreams information about the object scan is stored in an additional file stream. iStreams is also applicable to objects of any type, no matter if the structure of the object is already known to Kaspersky Anti-Virus or not.
Note: The iChecker technology has a restriction: it is only applicable to the objects with the structure known to Kaspersky Anti-Virus (e.g., files exe, dll, lnk, ttf, inf, sys, com, chm, zip, rar).
Note: the options values (enabled/disabled) are given for Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.0 for Windows Workstations functioning in the Recommended mode. Depending on the protection level for a specific on-demand scan task the options change (Protection levels of real-time file scan in Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.0 for Windows Workstations)
