Concerning to:
  • Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.0 for Windows Workstations MP5 (builds 5.0.676 - 5.0.712)
  • Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.0 for Windows Workstations MP4 (builds 5.0.527 - 5.0.528)
  • In the latest version of Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.0 for Windows Workstations (from version 5.0.527 and above) you can detect and block network attacks. This system is an IDS (Intrusion Detection System) driver, one of the main parts of all Firewalls that detects a network attack and blocks IP address of the attacking computer. To change the settings of protection against network attacks, do the following:

  • Go to Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.0 for Windows Workstations > Settings > Configure Real-Time Protection > Network
  • In the Network tab make the necessary changes
  • Close each window by pressing OK
  • Minimize the Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.0 for Windows Workstations main window

Enable protection against network attacks (by default the option is disabled) with the option enabled, the protection against network attacks is active: detects and blocks network attacks. After the option has been changed, reboot your computer to make the configured changes work.

Use stealth mode: (by default the option is disabled), with the option enabled your computer becomes virtually “invisible” in the net. All requests sent on your IP address by the hackers, e.g. such as ping. will get the message that the computer with this IP does not answer, i.e. there is no such computer in the net.

Notify the user about network attacks: (by default the option is enabled) with the option disabled each detected network attack will be blocked by the system but no message will be displayed containing the information about an attempt of network attack on your computer. The system will work inconspicuously.

Block the attacking computer for (min): (by default the option is disabled) with the option enabled the IP-address of the attacking computer will be blocked by the system for the period you define in the corresponding field.

Protection against network attacks added to the current Kaspersky Anti-Virus Personal PRO version allows detecting and fighting the following types of attacks: TCP port scan, UDP port scan, ICMP flood, TCP SYN flood, Land, Ping of death, Lovesan, Helkern

Note: pay attention, that IDS is a firewall component. It provides only a part of personal firewall function and cannot substitute the capabilities of the full-scale program pack detecting network activity. Kaspersky Lab recommends you to use the system only in case there is no personal firewall on your computer. For full control over the network activity on your computer (control of applications network activity, configure rules of pack filtering) you are advised to use Kaspersky AntiHacker full-scale firewall. Additional information about the Kaspersky Lab program product is available in the link: Kaspersky AntiHacker firewall. If any type of firewall is already installed on your computer, we recommend you to disable IDS in Kaspersky Anti-Virus settings to avoid the drivers' conflict.
