How to install Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.0 for Windows Workstations

Concerning to Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Windows Workstations version 5.0.676 and above

If you purchased Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.0 for Windows Workstations on a disc, then the installation process starts automatically after the Setup disc is inserted into the CD-ROM drive. If the Setup disc does not run automatically you also need to run the executable installation file manually. To do it, you need to select a disc and a folder where the Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.0 for Windows Workstation installation file is and double-click the executable file.

After you run the executable setup file Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.0 for Windows Workstations installation wizard will appear to help you install Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.0 for Windows Workstations on your computer.

Step 1: invitation to start the setup and the list of recommended actions you need to do before Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.0 for Windows Workstations installation.

Step 2: Kaspersky Lab license agreement

Step 3: provide user's information: the user's name and the user's company name. In fact these fields can contain any information you enter.

Step 4: window with additional information about work of Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.0 for Windows Workstations.

Step 5: on this step of the installation you should make up your mind if the following technologies are going to be used in work of Kaspersky Anti-Virus: 

  • Use real-time file system protection – scans all executable, opened and saved files for viruses. By default the option is enabled.

If you do not want Kaspersky Anti-Virus to scan files when addressing to them uncheck the Use real-time file system protection box.

  • Use real-time mail protection – scans for viruses all incoming and outgoing mail messages and mail databases. By default real-time mail protection is enabled.

If you do not want Kaspersky Anti-Virus to scan mail messages for viruses, uncheck the Use real-time mail system protection box. 

  • Use script monitoring – analyzes all dangerous scripts, as VBScript and JavaScript before execution for viruses. By default script monitoring is enabled.

If you do not want Kaspersky Anti-Virus to monitor scripts, uncheck the Use script monitoring box.

  • Use macros monitoring – monitors all VBA-macros launched for a malicious ode. By default macros monitoring is enabled.

To disable macros monitoring, uncheck the Use macros monitoring box. 

  • Use real-time protection against network attacks – this technology protects your computer against hacker attacks. It prevents attack from Internet and protects your personal data from unauthorized access, theft (more detailed information about protection against network attacks). By default real-time protection against network attacks is disabled.

If youwant Kaspersky Anti-Virus to protect your PC against network attacks, check the Use real-time protection against network attacks box.

Note: if any firewall is installed on your computer disable it to prevent the drivers' conflict.

To disable the technology, uncheck the Use the iStreamsTM technology box.

NOTE: this technology can only be applied o the computers with the NTFS file system.

NOTE! If on this step you disable any of the mentioned technologies, then later to enable them you will have to install the product once again and check the technologies you want to use.

If in the operation process of Kaspersky Anti-Virus you want to disable any kind of real-time protection or IStreams TM technology, you will have to install the product once again and uncheck the corresponding checkboxes on this step.

Step 6: license key file wizard (detailed information about license keys installation is available in the link: how to install a license key file)

Step 7: select the installation folder. During this step, the destination folder will be selected for the installation of the application files. You can select a default folder whose name is given by default (recommended)

Step 8: finish setup. A Completing the Setup dialog box informs you that installation of Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.0 for Windows Workstations on your computer has been completed. If required, you will be asked to restart your computer.

In Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Windows Workstations 5.0.676 logs are created automatically during local installation or during remote installation/uninstallation via Kaspersky Administration Kit 5.0.

The Logs are located to the folder %temp% (usually C:\Windows\Temp or C:\Documents and Settings\\LocalSettings\Temp) under the following names:

  • kav-install-yyyy-mm-dd-hh-mm-ss.log 
  • kav-uninstall-yyyy-mm-dd-hh-mm-ss.log

The log is not created:

- if the deinstallation process is run from the menu

- if the installation process is run via the msi-file
