Working with exclusions for real-time mail protection in Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.0 for Windows Workstations

Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.0 for Windows Workstations has the following exclusions: default, applied to real-time file/mail protection and on-demand scan (detailed information about working with general exclusions in Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.0 for Windows Workstations), distinctive of Real-time file protection only. To change the exclusions of the on-demand scan, do the following:

  • Go to Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.0 for Windows Workstations > Settings > Configure Real-Time Protection
  • In the Real-time protection settings > Mail > Settings
  • In the Real-time mail protection settings make the necessary changes
  • Close each window by pressing OK
  • Minimize the Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.0 for Windows Workstations main window



    In the real-time mail protection settings the following settings can be configured:

    In the Scan scope section select the objects that should be scanned by Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.0 for Windows Workstations with the real-time mail protection enabled:

  • Scan mail received via POP3 protocol: (by default the option is enabled) enables Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.0 for Windows Workstations scan all incoming mail POP3 protocol (the scan is done according to the port specified in the same window in the Ports settings section)
  • Scan incoming MS OUTLOOK mail: (by default the option is enabled) enables Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.0 for Windows Workstations scan all incoming MS OUTLOOK mail (the option is available only in Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.0 for Windows Workstations.
  • Scan mail sent via SMTP protocol: (by default the option is disabled) enables Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.0 for Windows Workstations scan all outgoing mail sent via SMTP protocol (the scan is done according to the port specified in the same window in the Ports settings section)
  • Scan outgoing MS OUTLOOK mail (by default the option is disabled): enables Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.0 for Windows Workstations scan all outgoing mail sent to you by the MS OUTLOOK mail client that is a part of MicroSoft Office (the option is available only in Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.0 for Windows Workstations
  • Scan attached archives(by default the option is enabled): enables scanning the archives attached to the sent/received (depending on the settings you configured) mail
  • Scan attached mail databases: (by default the option is enabled) enables scanning mail databases, attached to the sent/received (depending on the settings you configured) mail

    In the Objects to scan section choose which objects should be scanned by Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.0 for Windows Workstations with the real-time mail protection enabled:

  • Scan all objects: scan all files irrespective of their type or extension.
  • Scan infectable objects only (by default the option is activated): scan potentially infectable files: analysis for infection is based on the file internal structure.
  • Scan objects by extension: scan potentially infectable files; analysis for infection is based on the file extension

    In the Ports Settings section you can specify the numbers of ports for POP3/SMTP by which Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.0 for Windows Workstations will scan incoming/outgoing mail:

  • POP3-port: (default value 110) port number, by which incoming POP3 mail is scanned
  • SMTP-port: (default value 25) port number by which outgoing SMTP mail is scanned

    In the Additional settings of mail protection section you can configure restrictions to the objects scanned by Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.0 for Windows Workstations that are sent/received by mail:

  • Do not scan messages larger than (MB): (by default the option is disabled) restrict the size of a message. If the size of the received message is larger than restricted, then Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.0 for Windows Workstations starts scanning another message.
  • Stop is scan takes longer than (sec.): (by default he option is disabled) restrict the time of a message scanning. If during the restricted period of time the object is still not scanned, then Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.0 for Windows Workstations starts scanning another message.

    In the Object scan acceleration section you can enable/disable use the technologies to accelerate antivirus scanning:

  • Use the IChecker technology: this technology allows increase speed of the antivirus scanning by excluding the objects that were not altered from the previous scan, on the condition that the scan parameters (antivirus databases and settings) were not altered. This information is stored in a special base.

    Note: the option values (enabled/disabled) are given for Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.0 for Windows Workstations with the Recommended protection level configured. Depending on the protection level you choose the option values change (Levels of real-time mail protection in Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.0 for Windows Workstations)
