A COM-file (68 byte) is detected as "EICAR-Test-File". This IS NOT a virus. It simply shows text messages and returns the control to the operating system.

The researchers have included these files in antivirus packages, where they are detected as if it were a virus. The users who would like to generate “a virus incident” on their computers got interested in it.

Now the “virus stimulator” program contains only plaintext, for the most curious users to write it themselves (e.g. by phone or from a sample). As a result the COM-file looks the following way

X5O!P%@AP[4\PZX54(P^)7CC)7}$EICAR-STANDARD-ANTIVIRUS-TEST-FILE!$H+H*

Kaspersky Anti-Virus detects this file only when EICAR.AVC base is connected. This information has been extracted from the main antivirus base by users' requests.

You can download this text virus EICAR here: eicar.zip
