Concerning to Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 for Windows Servers Enterprise Edition

The Application database update system task can be used to update the databases used by Anti-Virus and necessary for the correct wok of the Anti-Virus.

WarningKaspersky Lab releases updates of anti-virus databases every hour. That is why you are recommended to set the schedule of the task Application database update to update with the same frequency.

The “Databases outdated” event is logged into the System Log if the databases have not been updated for more than 7 days, the “Databases obsolete” event is logged if the threshold of more than 14 days is exceeded. These thresholds can be changed: in the Anti-Virus Console > right-click Kaspersky Anti-Virus > Properties > go to the Additional tab > in the Event generation threshold section set the necessary periods.

The Application database update task resides in the Update node of the Anti-Virus Console. To edit its settings in the Anti-Virus Console expand the Update node > right-click the Application database update task > in the context menu select the necessary command:

  • to change the task schedule run the command Schedule task. By running this command you can flexibly configure the task schedule or can cancel the task start after a set date. Update task cannot be either restricted or paused.

  • to change the account under which the task will run choose the command Change account. Irrespective of the start mode (manual or scheduled) if you have not defined the account under which the task should run it will run under the same account with Kaspersky Anti-Virus service (by default it is Local System Account).

InformationTo run the task manually the account under which the Anti-Virus Console has been started should have the right to start tasks (Manage task state)

  • to choose the update source, to change the proxy-server settings run the command Properties.

As an update source you can choose (on the General tab):

    • Kaspersky Lab’s update servers

For the Anti-Virus to download updates from the geographically closest update server, set your country on the Regional settings tab. If you choose Detect automatically the country is detected automatically according to the regional settings of the computer on which the Anti-Virus is installed (Start > Control Panel > Regional and Language Options > Regional Options > Location).

    • Kaspersky Administration Server

Choose this update variant if Kaspersky Administration Kit is implemented in the corporate network. The databases will be updated by means of the Administration Agent installed on the protected server.

InformationIf you use a local task of the Anti-Virus to update, it is recommended via the Console of Kaspersky Administration Kit in the Update task properties set the schedule frequency to After receiving updates by Administration server. With such update settings the databases on the protected server will be performed immediately after the updates are received by the Administration Server. This variant cannot be set locally.

    • Custom HTTP, FTP-servers or network folders

If HTTP or FTP servers or local servers or folders specified by the user are used as the update source. If you select this option, you must create a list of sources with current sets of updates. To do so, click the Modify button. If several resources are specified as update sources, the application will attempt to connect to them one after another, starting from the top of the list, and retrieve the updates from the first available source. The order of the sources in the list can be changed as well.

InformationIf the resources that you selected from the list are unavailable, the Kaspersky Lab update servers can be used as the update source. To enable this feature, select the Use Kaspersky Lab's update servers if custom servers or network folders are not accessible checkbox.

To configure the proxy-server settings go to the Connection settings tab

By default it is supposed that Firewall is enabled in the LAN and the passive mode is used to connect with FTP-servers. That is why the box Use passive FTP mode if possible is checked by default. Clear this box if you use active FTP mode.

Proxy-server parameters depend either on the proxy-server (if it is used or not) or on the selected update source:

  • Kaspersky Lab’s update servers is chosen

If you use a proxy-server to get access to the Internet, check the box Use specified proxy-server parameters to connect to Kaspersky Lab’s update servers. Clear the box if you do not use the proxy-server.

  • Kaspersky Administration Server is chosen

With this update source selected the Administration Agent installed on the protected server performs the update. No additional setting of the proxy-parameters by this update scenario is required.

InformationIf you checked the box Use Kaspersky Lab's update servers if custom servers or network folders are not accessible and you establish connection with the Internet using the proxy-server, in this case you should also check the box Use specified proxy-server parameters to connect to Kaspersky Lab’s update servers.

  • Custom HTTP, FTP-servers or network folders is chosen

If connection with the above mentioned sources is established via a proxy-server in this case check Use specified proxy server settings for custom servers. If the list of update servers contains LAN resources then check the box By pass proxy server for local addresses so that when establishing connection parameters of the proxy-server would not be considered.

If you checked the box Use Kaspersky Lab's update servers if custom servers or network folders are not accessible and you establish connection with the Internet using the proxy-server, in this case you should also check the box Use specified proxy-server parameters to connect to Kaspersky Lab’s update servers.

If you use a proxy to connect to the update source, then:

1. define proxy-server settings in the section Proxy-server settings

      • if you use Web Proxy Auto-Discovery Protocol (WPAD) in the network, choose the variant Automatically detect the proxy-server settings (default setting).
      • if other mark Use custom proxy-server settings and define the address and port via which the connection will be established.

2. in the section Proxy server authentication settings choose the authentication mode.
