There have appeared new types of malicious software lately:
Adware any software application displaying advertising banners on users' computers. These programs often are a part of the officially distributed products whose producers provide free versions of their software
Spyware spying programs that monitor the user's computer: IP-address of the computer, the version of the operating system and Internet browser installed, the list of the most frequently visited Internet-resources, search inquiries and other information that can be used for further advertising campaigns (Spyware often accompanies Adware)
Proxy-programs use your computer as a “zombie” to receive or/and transfer files or emails (spam)
Porno-dialers programs granting access to porno resources for fee using Dial Up connection. This connection price is incredibly high
Riskware software that can be risky for the user (FTP, IRC, MIrc, RAdmin, utility of remote administration)
StartPage software that changes the address of InterNet Explorer's start page
All these programs are not malicious by their origin and they do not contain a destructive code. That is why detection of the executable files and their libraries was developed by Kaspersky Lab as a separate extended set of Antivirus bases.
Kaspersky Lab recommend the extended set of Antivirus bases for advanced users/system administrators only, who are familiar with the working principles of the potentially dangerous software. Normal users can apply to the extended set of Antivirus bases if he/she has one of the following problems:
either the address of start page in Internet Explorer or Internet Explorer settings is being changed;
There is a suspicious network activity on your computer and Kaspersky Anti-Virus with the latest renewal of Antivirus bases installed does not detect any infected/malicious object;
A lot of advertisement windows open in Internet Explorer interfering your work in Internet;
There is a net connection installation inquiry and the dialed number differs from the number of your provider
