Applies to:
  • Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 for Windows Workstations MP2 / MP3 / MP4
  • Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 SOS (all versions)
  • After installating Kaspersky Anti-Virus, it might happen that Windows Vista crashes to BSOD. It may happen at computer start-up or when starting a task. The possible reason is a conflict between Kaspersky Anti-Virus and some hardware drivers or software you have installed. If you have a similar problem, you need to get a complete memory dump of Windows Vista crashing to BSOD. It will be requested by Kaspersky Lab Technical Support Service.

WarningPlease include a detailed description of the problem and a list of actions needed to reproduce it into the technical support request form.

How to get a complete memory dump:

Information By default the operating system creates a kernel memory dump which is insufficient to identify the reason of a crash. Do the following to reconfigure the system to write complete memory dumps:

    • Go to Start > right-click My computer icon and select Properties

    • Click the link Advanced > Settings > Start-up and Recovery > Settings > Write debugging information > Complete memory dump
    • Close all windows by clicking OK

Information In the same section choose the folder to save the dump file to. By default this file will be created by the operating system in its own folder in MEMORY.DMP file. You can choose any folder name in the attached field.

    • reproduce the problem once again
    • make sure the complete memory dump file has been created successfully
    • attach necessary information and generated dump file to the HelpDesk form (you can find the list of necessary information in the beginning of this article)

Information After you have filled in the HelpDesk form, you can choose one of three variants how to attach a file to the form:

    • Upload of your files directly from this web-form: you can attach the necessary files to the message using this web-form.
    • Upload your files on Kaspersky Lab FTP server manually: you can attach the necessary files to your message by uploading them on the Kaspersky Lab FTP server in the folder with the name of your request number.

Information The memory dump file can be archived and that will reduce the size of the file you need to upload to Kaspersky Lab's ftp site.
