  • Problem description: a new build of the application version is installed on the top of the previous build with the application settings being saved (such upgrade of builds within the same version (i.e. 6.0) is known as minor upgrade) via Group Policy Object on remote computers running under Microsoft Windows 200 (Server or Professional). The installation seems to be successfully completed. However, the minor upgrade is not applied to the computer and the application build remains the same.

Cause. This issue occurs because the REINSTALL=ALL flag is not set on the Windows 2000-based computer during the upgrade.

Resolution: To upgrade the build/ version via the GPO perform major upgrade. The recommendation can be found in the Knowledge Base of Microsoft - KB954003.

Warning Remember application settings are not saved by major upgrade!
