The following settings can be configured In On-Demand Scan settings:

In the Restrictions section you can configure some restrictions to scan objects scanned by Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.0 for Windows Workstations when performing the task:

    • Do not scan files larger than (KB): (by default the option is disabled) restrict the size of the scanned objects. If the size of the scanned object is larger, then Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.0 for Windows Workstations starts scanning the next object.
    • Stop if scan takes longer than (sec): (by default the option is disabled) restrict the object scan time. If during the set period of time the object is not scanned, then Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.0 for Windows Workstations starts scanning the next object.
    • Do not ask for password when scanning objects: (by default the option is enabled) when scanning password-protected objects Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.0 for Windows Workstations does not inquire to enter a password. If the option is checked, then password-protected objects are skipped during the anti-virus scan in Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.0 for Windows Workstations (Kaspersky Anti-Virus processes password-protected archives: principles and methods of work).

In the Objects scan acceleration section you can enable/disable usage of technologies accelerating the anti-virus scan:

    • Use the iChecker technology: the technology allows accelerating the anti-virus scan by excluding from scan the objects that were not changed or modified from the time of the previous scan (if the scan parameters (anti-virus databases and settings) have not been changed). Information about it is stored in a special database.
    • Use the iStreams technology: this technology is similar to iChecker. The difference is the following: in iStreams information about the object scan is stored in an additional file stream. iStreams is also applicable to objects of any type, no matter if the structure of the object is already known to Kaspersky Anti-Virus or not.

Note: The iChecker technology has a restriction: it is only applicable to the objects with the structure known to Kaspersky Anti-Virus (e.g., files exe, dll, lnk, ttf, inf, sys, com, chm, zip, rar).

Note: the options values (enabled/disabled) are given for Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.0 for Windows Workstations functioning in the Recommended mode. Depending on the protection level for a specific on-demand scan task the options change (Levels of protection for On-Demand scan in Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.0 for Windows Workstations)

It is also recommended that you read the following article: IChecker and IStreams technologies: major information and operating principles
