Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.0 SOS

How to send a possibly infected object to Kaspersky Lab?
ID Article: 834    Other languages:  Deutsch  Polski  Русский      Views for 7 days 15    Last modified on 2007 Nov 15 16:10 Printable version

Concerning to:
  • Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.0 SOS
  • Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.0 for Windows Workstations MP5 (builds 5.0.676 - 5.0.712)
  • Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.0 for Windows Workstations MP4 (builds 5.0.527 - 5.0.528)
  • Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.0 for Windows Workstations MP3 (builds 5.0.175 - 5.0.228)
  • If you suspect your computer being infected by a virus unknown to Kaspersky Lab you can send possibly infected files to Kaspersky Lab experts to newvirus@kaspersky.com, the files should be zipped and password-protected. Before the possibly infected files are sent Kaspersky Lab experts recommend to scan them by the free Kaspersky Lab antivirus scanner (How to scan a file for a malicious code by Kaspersky Anti-Virus: Free Online Virus Scanner?)

You can also send possibly infected files to Kaspersky Lab via Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.0 for Windows Workstations interface. You can do it the following way:

    • Go to Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.0 for Windows Workstations > Support > Send file for analysis
    • In the dialog box select a possibly infected object
    • Minimize the Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.0 for Windows Workstations main window

The result of the action is an automatically created message with the subject “New virus” and the mail recipient address newvirus@kaspersky.com, the message “This file will be sent to Kaspersky Lab for research” and the selected possibly infected object being attached to the message (the original object is decrypted to pass through the Anti-Virus filters)

Note: before the file is being attached to the message Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.0 for Windows Workstations scans the selected object for the malicious code by comparing it with the antivirus database available (detailed about antivirus database updates).

And if the anti-virus databases are not updated the day you are trying to send the file to Kaspersky Lab, then Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.0 for Windows Workstations displays a message suggesting to do so.

If a malicious or suspicious code is not detected with the latest anti-virus databases, then a corresponding warning box is displayed. If after it you still would like to send the object to Kaspersky Lab, click the OK button in the warning box and send the created message
