  • When updating Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.0 there may be fails interfering installation of updates antivirus databases. Usually when an error occurs during updating process you get the error number that will help you determine its possible reason and the ways to rectify the problem.

If during the update process, an error occurs and the error number is not displayed (the user only gets a message that an error occurred when updating), do the following:

  • Make sure that when updating your computer was connected to the Internet or network source from which you tried to update is available

  • If you are using a firewall (Kaspersky Anti-Hacker, Kerio firewall, Zone Alarm/Zone alarm PRO, Seagate firewall, Agnitum Outpost, embedded in Windows XP SP2 firewall, etc) make sure your firewall is not blocking Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.0 network activity: in your firewall settings allow any network activity to the process kavsvc.exe (you can find this information in the user's guide of your firewall)

If you are using Firewall Kaspersky Anti-Hacker 1.8 and the program works in the teaching mode then you can allow any network activity to your Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.0 at the first updating attempt. When any network activity is being done Kaspersky Anti-Hacker 1.8 will display a window where you can allow any network activity to the process kavsvc.exe

  • make sure access to the updating servers is done via any FTP-client (FAR, Windows Commander etc)

If a computer is connected to the Internet, firewall is disabled and the updating sources are available via FTP-client and you keep receiving an error message, then Kaspersky Lab Tech Support should have the following data:

  • network configuration (connection type (modem, separate channel etc), available proxy, authorization on proxy, etc)
  • connection settings in the Updater component and Internet Explorer
  • information whether automatic updates (scheduled, run on behalf of the user's account) are functioning
  • GetSystemInfo utility report
