  • Kaspersky Anti-Virus NDIS Filter is an interception-driver of network packets. Interception mechanism is implemented by the technology NDIS Intermediate Driver . This method of embedding into the system is recommended by the Microsoft Company as it provides maximum compatibility both with different OS’s versions and with other applications and drivers.

Information The established network connections might be broken during the application installation because of the new driver. The reason of the broken established connections is that the driver is embedded into the protocol stack (network card – protocol TCP/IP) by means of Windows meanwhile stack drivers are reinitialized; as a result established connections are lost/broken.

After the application installation the driver Kaspersky Anti-Virus NDIS Filter is displayed in the properties of the network connection:

If two or more network connections are established in the system, then Kaspersky Anti-Virus NDIS Filter is embedded into each connection. No driver configuration is required.

    Interceptor is not installed*

Anti-Hacker will not filter packets and intercept network attacks (network packets will not be not intercepted). Functionality of other components will not change.

    Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 for Windows Workstations MP2/MP3/MP4

    Kaspersky Anti-Virus 7.0/MP1

    Kaspersky Internet Security 7.0/MP1

Network packets are intercepted only by the interceptor from Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.0**

Anti-Hacker/Firewall will not filter package filtering and “catch” network attacks (network packets will not be intercepted). Functionality of other components will not change.

    * Kaspersky Anti-Virus NDIS Filter cannot be installed on these systems. Network packets are intercepted by the previous version of the driver from Kaspersky Anti-Virus version 5.0.

** In Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 for Windows Workstations/ Kaspersky Anti-Virus 7.0/ Kaspersky Internet Security 7.0, installed on 32-bit OS’s (except Windows Vista and Windows 7) , interceptor of network packets is installed together with Kaspersky Anti-Virus NDIS Filter (this interceptor was a part of Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Windows Workstations (version 5.0) and starts functioning once Kaspersky Anti-Virus NDIS Filter is uninstalled).

Warning It is strongly not recommended to disable Kaspersky Anti-Virus NDIS Filter by clearing the corresponding box in the Local Area Connection Properties window. The result of the new working mode of NDIS Filter might be incorrect work of the whole OS (for example, the OS might “blue screen”).

If two or more network connections are established in the system, then removal of Kaspersky Anti-Virus NDIS Filter in any connection will not influence efficiency of the interceptor in other connections.

Once removed Kaspersky Anti-Virus NDIS Filter can be installed again. For it first disable self-protection of the anti-virus application, then in the network connections properties click Install > select Service > click Add > click the button Have Disk > in the open window click the Browse button and specify the path to the subfolder KLIMX86 (or KLIMX64) which resides in the anti-virus setup folder. Click Open and OK to install.
