The article describes how to fully recover Windows XP\2003 system registry using the backup means. The backup means from Windows XP\2003 helps to protect the data if the hard drive work fails or if files have been deleted by mistake. Using the backup tool the backup copy of all data on a disk can be created and saved as an archive on another device (for example, on a hard drive or a tape).
To fully recover the system registry from backup, do the following:
Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Backup
In the Backup or Restore Wizard window click the Advanced Mode link
In the Backup utility window go to the Restore and Manage Media tab
In the left part of the window expand the File node
Next expand the backup copy file node (example, Backup.bkf created 24.11.2006 at 14:23)
Check System State
In the left down corner in the Restore files to field make sure the Original location option is set
In the right down corner click Start Restore button
In the Warning window click OK
In the Confirm Restore window click the Advanced button, if you want to set additional restore settings
Click OK to restore the registry
Wait till the restore process is over
Click Close
In the Backup Utility window to finish the restore process successfully click Yes to reboot your PC or click No if you want to reboot later.
