Concerning to:
  • Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.0 for Windows Workstations MP5 (builds 5.0.676 - 5.0.712)
  • Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 for Windows Workstations (all builds)
  • Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 for Windows Servers (all builds)
  • Kaspersky Administration Kit 6.0 MP1
  • Yes, Kaspersky Anti-Virus can pause its work in order to give system resources to other applications. Unlike Kaspersky Anti-Virus version 5.0, Kaspersky Anti-Virus version 6.0 can pause not only scan tasks, but work of File Anti-Virus as well.

    Application version 5.0

    Application version 6.0

    Version 6.0

According to the default settings the Concede resources to other application box is enabled. It means when the load on the file system from other applications increases, File Anti-Virus and scan tasks will pause their activity.

For example, when copying a large file its anti-virus scan will be paused till the system resources are conceded.

If the application is managed locally, the mode can be disabled in Protection > Settings > Concede resources to other applications.

If you manage your Anti-virus application via Kaspersky Administration Kit, the mode can be enabled/disabled in the application policy > the Settings tab > in the drop- down list select Protection > and in window enable/disable Concede resources to other applications.

InformationDo not forget to lock the setting.

Additionally for each scan task the mode can be disabled in the task properties on the Additional tab.

WarningThe Concede resources to other applications box in the Protection properties is common both for File Anti-Virus and scan tasks. Once the box is unchecked, the mode cannot be enabled in the selected scan task – as the setting will be missing from the task parameters.

    Version 5.0

If you manage Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.0 locally, go to Settings > Additional settings > the Efficiency tab to set the system load level.

If you manage the application via Kaspersky Administration Kit, level of the system load can be changed in the policy of Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.0 for Windows Workstations/ File Servers

    • Open the necessary policy
    • Go to the Additional tab
    • On the tab click the Troubleshooting options button
    • In the open window in the Efficiency section check Pause anti-virus scan when the system load exceeds and set the necessary value from 0 to 100 (the value given is the load level on the file system from other applications. When Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.0 reaches the value it lowers its scan activity)

    • Click OK to close each window
