In November 2008, AV-Comparatives, a respected Austrian research laboratory, tested the proactive malware detection components of various antivirus products.
The antivirus databases for all products were updated on 4 August, 2008 and were not updated again throughout the testing period. Malware that emerged after this date was used to test detection levels.
The efficiency of heuristic detection was tested in two stages: the products were tested using malware that emerged during the first week after the antivirus databases were updated and then after four weeks.
