Number of the week: 40% of modern smartphones owners do not use antivirus software

Much has been written about the growing popularity of mobile devices as a tool to make online purchases, manage bank accounts and store confidential data. Despite this, however, the level of protection on many of these devices leaves much to be desired. According to a May 2012 survey for Kaspersky Lab by O+K Research, about 40% of users have no antivirus software on their smartphones. The number of malicious programs varies greatly depending on the platform - for example, there are already hundreds of thousands of them for Android. In addition to viruses and Trojans there are other threats such as infected or phishing web sites or third-party access to your important data. The low numbers of smartphone users with proper protection demonstrates how little many people understand the levels of danger threatening PCs and smartphones.Even though cybercriminals are as active on smartphones as on desktop computers, mobile users still feel relatively safe. Indirectly, this confirmed by the fact that just 43% of Apple iPhone owners say they use security systems – a situation not helped by the fact that the development of iOS makes impossible, in principle, to create comprehensive protection. Kaspersky Internet Security 2013 is one of only three products to pass proactive challenge

Kaspersky Internet Security 2013 became one of only three products to achieve “Recommended” status in the complex Proactive Security Challenge 64 test conducted by 35 security solutions were put through their paces by the reputable Czech-based independent testing lab. The large-scale research was based on 110 tests, each a simulation of malware trying to infect the system using a specific technique. One distinct feature of such testing is that products need to include the most advanced proactive protection methods to stand any chance of achieving a high rating. As a result, 25 products were labeled as providing “zero” protection, while Kaspersky Internet Security 2013 demonstrated the second-best result among security suites. The Proactive Security Challenge 64 tests were sorted into 11 levels according to complexity. Each product had to block a certain number of threat simulations in order to pass to the next level. In particular, the Matousec team noted complications related to the 64-bit Windows 7 operating system which made it harder for the security products to detect and block certain threats.Due to the complexity of the tests, no product achieved a 100% rating. Kaspersky Internet Security 2013 showed one of the best results, blocking 95 out of 110
