Students from Europe are being invited to submit their papers discussing cybercrime issues to enter the European Cup of the Conference for Young Professionals, organised by Kaspersky Lab. The conference will be held at the University of Applied Sciences in Erfurt, Germany, from January 28 – 30, 2011, and papers may be submitted until December 6 2010.

Under the heading of “IT Security in a Connected World”, bachelors, masters and Ph.D. students from European universities, institutes of higher education and graduate schools are invited to submit their research. This year’s topics include IT-specific issues, such as trends in anti-spam development and cloud security, as well as social, economic and legal issues including IT security education.

The conference provides a platform for discussion and brings together students, experts, scientists and researchers in a collaborative environment. It offers participants the opportunity to develop new ideas and discuss present and future challenges and opportunities for IT security.

All papers submitted will be reviewed by a program committee, which includes company founder Eugene Kaspersky, academics including Prof. Dr.-Ing. Gunar Schorcht from the University of Applied Sciences in Erfurt and Dr. Hamid Jahankhani from the University of East London, and experts from Kaspersky Lab. The authors of the best submissions will be awarded prizes from Kaspersky Lab and will be invited to present their research at the European Conference for Young Professionals. The winners of the European Cup will also be able to attend the International IT Security Conference for Young Professionals 2011.

“The conference offers an excellent opportunity for students to present and share their work with others in the IT security community, and specifically with the experts from Kaspersky Lab who are already dealing with some of the related threats on the front line. The overall event provides a valuable opportunity for networking and relationship building, as well as to gain insights into how online attacks are handled by one of the leading names in IT security,” says Steven Furnell, Head of School for the School of Computing and Mathematics at the University of Plymouth in the UK and a member of the Program Committee.

"I have participated in three Kaspersky Lab IT Security for the Next Generation conferences in the capacity of a Program Committee member with great pleasure. A number of my students attended these conferences and found the activities both enjoyable and enlightening. Alongside listening to their peers, they appreciated the insightful presentations from Kaspersky Lab’s experts. A brilliant event. A must for all those UG, PG, and PhD students who would like to make an impact in IT security in their futures," says Dr. Orhan Gemikonakli, Head of Department, Computer Communications, School of Engineering and Information Sciences, Middlesex University, UK, and a member of the program committee.
