Kaspersky Lab, a leading information security software developer, announces the start of open beta-testing of Kaspersky® Anti-Virus 5.0 for Windows File Servers. All interested parties are invited to participate in testing the product, which incorporates a range of upgrades and new features.

The solution provides anti-virus protection for Windows file servers by scanning for and neutralising malicious code. All file server objects are scanned. Antivirus databases can be updated automatically, and configuration options are highly flexible.

Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.0 for Windows File Servers incorporates a new antivirus engine; less memory is used when scanning, and anti-virus performance is nearly three times greater than in previous versions. The number of archive formats which can be treated has also been significantly extended, and now includes ZIP, ARJ, CAB and RAR formats.

In addition, the management system has been upgraded, with a new interface integrated with Microsoft Management Console. This simplifies configuration and management of the application, with an ergonomic menu offering a choice of three pre-defined protection levels: maximum protection, recommended, and maximum speed.

The upgrading of the product's functional characteristics has also led to an improvement in the downloading of antivirus database updates, making it more effective. The program can now determine which Kaspersky Lab download server is least busy, significantly increasing the speed at which downloading is conducted. Additionally, if the Internet connection is broken during the download process, the updates which remain to be downloaded will automatically be downloaded once the connection is re-established. The solution can be configured so that all downloads are automatically loaded to workstations connected to the local network.

Finally, this new version of Kaspersky Anti-Virus can be used within networks with split networks. The centralised administration system makes it possible to install the application to several file servers at once.
