Kaspersky Lab, a leading manufacturer of secure content management solutions, announces that Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Windows Workstations Release 2 was one of the first security solutions in the world to earn the Checkmark Platinum Product Award certificate.
The Checkmark Platinum Product Award is a prestigious new award from West Coast Labs, an independent cybersecurity testing and research center. The certificate is issued based upon the results of extensive real-time testing of the quality of antimalware protection provided by a product. These tests very closely simulate the real life working conditions of an average user's computer.
Each solution is tested 24x7x365 against a feed of malware in real time which transferred through or to it via the different protocols. Samples are harvested in real time through WCL's global honeynet which spans North and South America, Europe and Asia.
With this new system of testing, the antivirus products are pitted against actual threats that can be found on the Web rather than against malware samples that have been collected for the purpose over time. This approach provides a highly accurate assessment of the level of effectiveness offered by the various solutions, as the test results are not compromised by biased or outdated malware test samples.
It was this innovative approach to testing that demonstrated the advantage offered by Kaspersky Lab's advanced technologies in combating complex online threats. Kaspersky Lab participated in West Coast Lab's testing program from the very beginning, earning a platinum certificate for its products' performance at the end of the very first test period.
Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Windows Workstations Release 2 demonstrated a consistently high level of malware detection with sufficient performance for the solution to run in real-time. The product was tested against some 800 malware samples appearing each month, including the newest malicious programs that might not yet feature in any malware databases.
The tests mimicked simultaneous attacks via the principle channels through which a computer may become infected: email, Internet browsing and FTP traffic. Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Windows Workstations Release 2 delivered a convincing performance in filtering all of the potential channels, thereby ably demonstrating its comprehensive protection capability.
Additionally, Kaspersky Lab was among the first to receive a Checkmark certificate from West Coast Labs acknowledging that the company's security solution is Windows 7compatible. This endorsement means that Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Windows Workstations Release 2 is verified stable under Windows 7 and is guaranteed to provide protection to all corporate users.
"Historically, product evaluations – whereby testing is conducted without regard for time and location – have produced large gaps between performance expectations and end user experiences." said Lysa Myers, Director of Research at West Coast Labs. She continued, "The Checkmark Platinum Award shows a dedication to testing that goes beyond traditional product evaluation. In addition to a vendor's proven history of achieving certification, the Platinum Product Award includes the new Real Time test which pits vendor's products against threats that are in the field worldwide, as they happen. The highly anticipated release of Windows 7 provides a new opportunity for malware authors to attempt to exploit this new operating system. We are pleased to see that Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Windows Workstations Release 2 withstood the rigors of our Checkmark testing to achieve this accreditation as well."
"We are glad that another independent research lab appreciates the value of dynamic testing and importantly, is committed to testing how effective antivirus products are in the everyday situations that users typically find themselves in," said Alexander Gostev, Director of Kaspersky Lab Global Research and Analysis Team. "What makes the approach adopted by West Coast Labs so valuable is that they will continue their dynamic testing for a long time, with vendors receiving renewed certification based on each test period's results. The Checkmark Platinum Product Award received by Kaspersky Lab clearly demonstrates that the decision we made several years ago to focus on developing such technologies as Hosted Intrusion Prevention was totally justified. It also shows that our approach to protection is indeed truly comprehensive."
