1989 – Eugene Kaspersky discovers the virus Cascade on his personal computer. The virus sparks his interest – he studies the code and writes a program to disinfect the virus from his computer. Soon, Kaspersky starts developing antivirus utilities to counter other viruses.
1992 – Eugene Kaspersky starts using external databases for virus signatures, an innovation which radically changes the antivirus industry.
1992 – Kaspersky's antivirus team develops a heuristic analyzer, which is capable of detecting undiscovered virsuses, including polymorphing viruses.
1994 – Kaspersky's antivirus program, named Anti-Viral Toolkit Pro (AVP), wins international recognition for being the best antivirus program in a test carried out at Hamburg University.
1996 – The Kaspersky team releases AVP 3.0, a 3rd generation scanning kernel, which receives further international acclaim and leads to major brands incorporating Kaspersky technology into their products.
1997 – Kaspersky's antivirus team separates from Kami and establishes a new company, «Kaspersky Lab».
1999 – Kaspersky Lab develops a behavior blocker, a revolutionary technology for identifying macro viruses based on traits instead of relying on signatures.
2004 – Kaspersky Lab begins issuing hourly antivirus updates.
2005 – Kaspersky Anti-Virus wins critical claim after tests conducted by IBM professionals at the IBM CERT Antivirus Center showed that the product was well ahead of all competitors in identifying viruses in archived files.
2007 – As Kaspersky Lab turns 10 years, it's new business product line, Kaspersky Open Space Security, wins three categories in the prestigious SC Magazine Awards. At the same time, PC Word names home user product Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 "Best Buy" and one of the top 100 products of the year.
